Travelling to Australia Made Simpler with the Australian Immi App
From 30 September 2025, the Australian Department of Home Affairs has expanded the use of the Australian Immi App to ten additional countries. This enhancement allows thousands of visa applicants who have previously provided their fingerprint biometrics to access a faster, more affordable and more convenient way to meet their visa requirements.
This development is particularly valuable for travellers seeking to visit or migrate to Australia, as it streamlines the biometric process β a key step in most visa applications.
What Is the Australian Immi App?
The Australian Immi App is a free mobile application that allows eligible visa applicants to submit their passport details and facial biometrics directly from their smartphones.
This means eligible applicants no longer need to travel to an Australian Biometric Collection Centre (ABCC) each time they apply for a new visa. For many, this change reduces both the time and cost involved in preparing a visa application.
Newly Expanded Availability:
he app was initially launched in September 2024 and has been widely adopted across Pacific countries such as Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea and by third-country nationals in New Zealand.
From 30 September 2025, the program has been expanded to include:
Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the Peopleβs Republic of China)
Malaysia
Philippines
Singapore
Solomon Islands
South Africa
South Korea
Thailand
Tuvalu
Vanuatu
This expansion reflects the appβs growing success. In the Pacific region alone, nearly 30,000 people have used it since launch, and over half of all users submitted their details within two days of receiving their invitation.
Benefits for Visa Applicants:
Using the Australian Immi App offers significant advantages:
Time savings β Applicants can submit their facial image shortly after lodging their visa application, eliminating delays caused by travelling to biometric centres.
Lower costs β By removing the need for travel and biometric appointment fees, applicants can reduce the financial burden of the application process.
Faster processing β Early submission of biometrics may help reduce overall visa processing times.
Looking Ahead:
The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed plans for a global rollout of the Australian Immi App, expected to be completed by early 2026. This will ensure that more visa applicants worldwide can benefit from this convenient and cost-effective approach.
