Paper‑based Child, Long‑Term Resident & Other Family visa applications is finally live inside Immi Account

Published: July 2025 – The Department of Home Affairs has quietly switched on a new “paper‑import” feature that lets selected family‑visa applicants pull their hard‑copy files into ImmiAccount and manage them online. The change took effect on 23 July 2025.

Who is eligible?

The new service covers three broad groups:

Other Family visas – Aged Dependent (Subclasses 114 & 838), Remaining Relative (115 & 835) and Carer (116 & 836).

Child visas – Child 101, Adoption 102, Child 802, Dependent Child 445, Orphan Relative 117 and 837.

Long‑Term Residents – New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship 461 and Former Resident 151 visas.

Paper lodgement is still compulsory at first. Once Home Affairs issues the acknowledgement letter, the application can be imported.

What you can do inside ImmiAccount:

After import you may:

  • upload extra evidence and forms

  • check correspondence and real‑time status updates

  • change contact or passport details

  • lodge Bridging Visa applications where available

  • submit an online withdrawal request

These online tools replace the slow email‑to‑processing‑centre workflow and should shorten response times.

Cut‑off dates and exclusions

The import tool does not work for:

  • Child 101, Adoption 102 or Orphan Relative 117 applications lodged outside Australia before 1, April 2020.

  • Aged Dependent 114, Remaining Relative 115 or Carer 116 applications lodged outside Australia before 25 , June 2020.

Older paper files will stay entirely offline and must still be managed through their usual processing offices.

How to import – three straightforward steps:

  1. Create or log into ImmiAccount.

  2. Enter the key identifiers from the acknowledgement letter: Application ID, applicant’s date of birth, and a primary identity‑document number (passport, Titre de Voyage or ImmiCard).

  3. Press “Import”. The matter now appears in your account dashboard, ready for document uploads and future actions.
